Franchisees are generally easiest to motivate during their first two years, often referred to as the “honeymoon period,” when they are most receptive to guidance.

Regular meetings and social events—such as BBQ gatherings—provide valuable opportunities for new franchisees to interact with experienced operators. These events encourage discussions about successful strategies, lessons learned, and practical advice.

Such gatherings serve both educational and motivational purposes, particularly for franchisees who may be underperforming. Successful franchisees naturally share insights into what works and what does not, helping others improve.

Recognising high-performing franchisees can also motivate others to improve, provided it is done without publicly criticising lower performers.

New franchisees often gravitate toward successful operators to learn from their experiences and emulate their achievements. At the conclusion of meetings or BBQ events, it is beneficial to gather the newest franchisees and ask them to share what they have learned during that meeting. This provides an opportunity to reinforce key lessons and coach them toward becoming high-performing franchisees themselves.
